Looking for his forever home

CJAY

a.k.a. Big Country. All chest, no legs.

An 11-year-old mastiff mix and certified Canine Good Citizen who has done the work and is ready for his person.

What comes with Cjay

You bring the love. His team covers the rest, for life.

Food for life

Covered for as long as he lives, wherever you are.

Vet care for life

His medical care is paid for. You never have to weigh cost against his health.

Training for life

Free sessions with his trainer, plus ongoing support so you know everything Cjay knows.

A whole team

Cjay has a group of people invested in him who are on call to help his new family.

New handlers have learned his routine in about a week. Once you know it, keeping it up is just part of the day. No expensive board-and-train required; he has already finished one.

His story

Almost three years in limbo. Ready for a real home.

Cjay spent his first seven or so years as someone's best friend. Then something happened that we will never know about, and he landed in a shelter with scars on his legs, scared and defensive. A rescue pulled him and later walked away from all of its dogs, leaving Cjay stuck again.

For about the past year he has been in a board-and-train program with a trainer who taught him to enjoy life again. He earned his Canine Good Citizen title, went from being afraid of a baby French bulldog to playing with dogs he trusts, and now gets compliments on his manners everywhere he goes, including the mall.

His trainer is moving to a facility-based model. We don't want Cjay spending his senior years in boarding. He needs his person, and we need to find them soon.

“Now, he’s like a kid who never outgrew his favorite stuffed animal, he’s always seeking connection and giving his whole heart.”

Cjay’s trainer

Who he is

Goof, derp, lover of life.

Ball obsessed

Fetch is his favorite thing in the world. He also loves early-morning bike rides, long walks, hikes and open fields.

Couch potato

Just as happy settling in for TV night. He knows “place” and stays off the couch unless you invite him up, which he would love.

High-five machine

He figured out that high fives earn treats, so now he offers them on repeat.

Belly-rub believer

In his view there is no such thing as a bad belly rub. He'll roll in a patch of grass like he found treasure.

Food motivated

His love language is snacks. Bar french fries, In-N-Out, the occasional celebratory steak bone.

Car buddy

Happiest with the breeze in his face, just glad to be along for the ride.

He's waiting, paw up.

The right home

Strong leaders with a kind heart.

  • Comfortable with big dogs. He's an 86-pound mastiff mix with a lot of chest.
  • Structure and follow-through. You keep up the routine his trainer teaches you. It isn't hard; it takes consistency.
  • His advocate. You keep him out of situations that could set him back, especially pushy or in-his-face dogs.
  • Ready to adore a senior. A little gray in the face, a lot of spunk, and he deserves to be spoiled.
  • A sense of humor. Recommended. He will make you laugh daily.

Other pets

Dogs: possible, with the right match
He has been attacked by dogs before and doesn't like high-energy dogs in his face. He enjoys calm, respectful dogs and has had best buds in foster. Every dog in the home should follow the same training rules.
Cats: likely okay
He currently lives with cats and plays with his foster brother. Any new cat needs a slow, careful introduction.
